Wood species: appearance, properties and scope of application (75 photos). Which are they divided into and which are classified as dark breeds?

Properties of hardwood

Deciduous trees are divided into hard and soft varieties. Gives off a faint odor.

Oak

It is a hard and strong wood, highly resistant to rotting. Has good ductility. The variety is in demand due to its texture and color.

  • It is easy to saw and sand. Wood that has lain in water for some time receives a beautiful shade and texture (stained oak).
  • The wood becomes stronger, but brittle. Bog oak is difficult to process. Tannins are obtained from the bark of a young tree.
  • Wood of other species aged in oak decoction can be easily painted with a variety of dyes.
  • Oak lumber is widely used in the production of furniture, parquet, and veneer.

Oak veneer is used to cover less valuable types of wood, plywood, and chipboard, making their appearance noble.

Oak lends itself well to gluing and does not like alcohol-based varnishes.

Acacia

Of all Russian tree species, acacia has the hardest timber.

  • The core is yellow.
  • Acacia does not warp, does not crack, and has high ductility.
  • Dry material is extremely difficult to process, but it is highly polished.

A special feature of acacia is its color change over time. It is used to create parts for machine tools and hand carpentry tools (blocks, handles), and for the production of veneer.

Ash

A tree similar to oak. It has wonderful texture and color. It bends easily under the influence of steam, and no cracks appear during drying.

  • Insect pests in large numbers can damage trunks; processing of lumber is required.
  • At high humidity, the material rots quite quickly. The tree has a strong and plastic structure.
  • Serves as a raw material for the creation of sports equipment, wooden handles for processing tools, and stair railings.

Ash cannot be polished; it can be painted well with nitro varnishes.

Beech

Has strong wood. The structure of beech is highly hygroscopic; products cannot be used in high humidity.

  • During the drying process, no cracks appear and dries quite quickly.
  • The beautiful texture of veneer allows you to create beautiful furniture.
  • Wood lends itself well to various treatments other than polishing.

Wooden blanks are used to create blocks for woodworking tools. You can paint with paints and apply mastic.

Hornbeam

Another name is white beech. The wood is white-gray, hard and strong, with an inconspicuous texture. Lumber does not split easily due to the diagonal arrangement of the fibers. Hornbeam does not warp, and after drying it becomes harder and stronger than oak. Difficult to process.

Birch

It has no obvious advantages. Susceptible to rot and insects. Chipboard and plywood are made from birch. Used for furniture production; it is plastic when steamed. It takes a long time to dry, but at the same time it bursts and becomes distorted.

Karelian birch

Very different from the birch of the Central Russian strip. It stands out among trees with a special type of texture.

Serves as a valuable raw material for crafts. Contains tannins that allow you to dye products in unique colors.

Thanks to the intertwined fibers, the wood cannot be split - it is used to make parts for percussion instruments.

Maple

Hard and strong wood. The material is processed and polished with high quality. When dry, it does not bend and is easy to cut. Used in applied work.

Alder

It is a soft-leaved species. Used in building houses and making furniture. Wood does not rot, so wells are made from it. Does not absorb odors.

Aspen

A tree similar to alder. Easy to process. It is used to make plywood, roofing elements, and matches.

Linden

The varieties are widely used in creating carved elements for furniture. Cracks do not appear, do not bend during drying, and do not rot for a long time.

Properties of fruit tree wood

Fruit trees are not often used in construction or applied business, and if they are used, they are wild trees. The properties of their wood attract the attention of craftsmen.

Pear

It has a pink or yellow-white color. Strong material, perfectly processed, regardless of direction. To impart hardness, the wood is soaked and then dried in the open air, protected from direct sun. It polishes well, does not crack or warp. There are pests in wood.

Apple tree

Easy to handle. When dry it bends a lot. Used in the manufacture of pads.

Plum

Characteristics similar to apple tree. Thanks to its special texture, it is used in the production of utensils, jewelry and furniture.

Walnut

Dense structure that can be easily processed. It has a very pleasant texture. Can be completely bleached using hydrogen peroxide. Well tinted and painted. Woodworkers create excellent furniture.
