Linden is a universal tree that gives itself completely to a person without reserve. Linden is used for medicinal purposes and arts and crafts. Linden honey is highly valued. It was used in the manufacture of turning blanks and even in aircraft construction. But most of all it is used in construction. And not only as a facing material, but even for the construction of buildings.
Use of linden in the national economy
The wood of this fragrant tree with high humidity and a pronounced texture is sometimes used as round timber, sawdust and even shavings are used.
Most often, linden wood is used to make:
- works of sculpture;
- crafts carved from bark;
- turning blanks;
- furniture board and a wide variety of furniture, including expensive ones;
- drawing boards;
- guitars and their soundboards and piano keys.
Barrels, pencils and even matches are also made from wood. Shelves for books and bookcases are made from linden. Doors made of linden wood are considered durable and never “suffer” from distortions. Lime tree charcoal is also valuable for humans. It makes some of the best water filters. And before, even seals were made from linden.
The interior parts of the premises are made from linden using timber and lining. Most often these are baths and saunas, but it is even used in living rooms. The main thing is to know which part of the tree is best used where.
Aspen buds
For chronic glomerulonephritis, enzyme infusion from poplar buds helps well...
To prepare the infusion, take a 3-liter jar of whey, add 1 glass of sugar, 1 tsp. sour cream, mix thoroughly. Tie 100 g of crushed pine buds into a gauze knot and lower it to the bottom of a jar of whey. Place the jar in a warm place for two weeks until fermentation begins.
To use, pour half a glass of infusion from the jar and take the product 2 times a day before meals.
Lumber
Cutting linden in different ways produces a large amount of lumber, the demand for which is always high. Considering the significant advantages of linden, it can be used literally everywhere. At the same time, linden lumber can be used for construction, cladding and decoration.
High-quality wood provides equally high-quality materials for construction. Reviews from professionals about the use of linden are extremely positive. Thus, Mikhail foreman from Rostov-on-Don says: I always advise clients to use linden wood for interior decoration of the house.
Wood is easy to work with, it looks great, and it always keeps its shape. The material is inexpensive and for the money its quality is very high. For cladding, lining, eurolining or parquet boards are most often used. Other linden lumber also has uses in construction.
Various linden lumber produced in Izhevsk:
Linden lining
Linden wood is beige in color with a pink tint. This material is considered one of the best when there is a need for decoration. The pliability of wood is combined in linden with strength. Linden lining fully possesses all these qualities. After processing, it may be completely uninteresting to rodents, and will not be subject to mold attacks or the formation of fungus.
The lining is a planed veneer of linden, which has the natural moisture content of the wood. The lining boards are connected to each other using ridges.
Installation of the boards is quite simple. First, a sheathing is created, and then boards are installed perpendicular to it.
The indisputable advantages of lining include the following qualities:
- good heat insulator;
- longevity of service;
- washes well and does not get dirty easily;
- moisture resistance.
At the same time, the linden lining holds its shape well. In case of color loss (and this is possible after several years of use), you can remove the top layer with a grinding machine. When the temperature rises, even treated linden lining will smell fragrant for quite a long time.
It is believed that when visiting bathhouses decorated with linden clapboard, the healing and health-improving effect for a person is much higher than in bathhouses made of other wood. The standard dimensions of the lining are as follows: thickness 16-20mm, width 15-20cm, length 3-6m. The difference between varieties is determined by letters.
The markings are as follows:
- A – the highest quality and most expensive;
- B – average in quality and price;
- C – linden lining of low quality and the lowest price.
Thus, linden wood lining is an excellent building cladding material. It is environmentally friendly, unpretentious and healthy. At the same time, given the difference in price depending on the type, linden lining can be both very affordable and very expensive. The appearance of the material, as well as the ease of installation and maintenance, deserve a rating of 5.
Eurolining
Linden lining differs from domestic lining in several, but very important, characteristics. For eurolining, only high grade wood is used. The ridge clasp is better here. In addition, the material for eurolining undergoes a forced drying procedure.
Thus, eurolining is a higher quality and, accordingly, more expensive material. Although longevity, resistance to changes in humidity, the environmental component here is at the same level or slightly higher than that of lining. Rating 5+.

Edged boards
An edged board is one that does not have a wane (edge with bark). The standard dimensions of the rectangular section of such lumber are as follows: from 16 × 8 mm to 250 × 100 mm. Thickness ranges from 2 to 10 centimeters. The edged board should always have the correct shape.
In many ways, its shape and quality depend on the cutting method. So:
- Radial cutting produces the most expensive board. It runs down the center of the trunk. This edged board is least susceptible to moisture.
- Semi-radial cutting produces a board of lower quality and cheaper.
- Tangential cutting produces edged boards that are most susceptible to shrinkage and swelling. Its price is the lowest.
This material is used for internal and external cladding, as well as for creating partitions and for arranging “rough” floors. The material is quite expensive. However, without additional cladding it cannot be used, as it will diverge, because it does not have locks for connection, and it will chip, since no grinding was carried out.
Unedged boards
There are two more types of boards:
- Semi-edged. This is a board in which, after cutting, a bark edge remains on one side.
- Unedged. This is an irregularly shaped board with bark edges on both sides.
The standard thickness of such a board is 25, 40, 50 millimeters with a length of 300 and 600 centimeters. It is used only for a rough draft, where there are no special requirements for the type of material. It is used for the manufacture of lathing, load-bearing structures, and decking. The appearance of the material is far from ideal, but considering that the board itself is inexpensive and of high quality, the rating is 4.
Tilia mandshurica Rupr. et Maxim. —Linden Manchurian
Family
Tiliaceae Juss.
Spreading.
Grows in the south of the Far East (Primorye). Grows in cedar-deciduous and oak forests, in river valleys and on mountain slopes. It is rarely found in cultivation in the Far East; in the European part, individual specimens are available in botanical gardens and experimental plantings.
Characteristics of the tree.
A small tree, up to 17–20 m high, up to 50 cm in diameter, with a dense, wide crown, often multi-stemmed from the base. The bark is highly wrinkled and black.
Shade-tolerant. Frost-resistant. Drought resistant.
The leaves are heart-shaped, with long sharp teeth, very large, 8-15 cm long on fruit-bearing branches, and up to 30 cm long on young, barren branches, the apex of the leaf is pointed, sometimes in the upper part the leaf has small lobes, the leaves are dark green above, below gray or whitish, felt.
Petioles 3-7 cm long, felt-like. Young shoots have light gray bark and brownish felt pubescence.
The flowers are yellow, large, up to 1.2-1.5 cm in diameter, very fragrant, in dense inflorescences of 15-20 flowers. It blooms in July, 1-2 weeks later than small-leaved linden. The fruits are spherical, felt, with a blunt apex at the base, 8-13 mm long, with 5 longitudinal, not sharply defined ribs. The weight of 1000 fruits is about 230 g. It reproduces like other types of lindens.
An important honey plant.
Wood.
White in color with a slight pinkish or reddish tint. The species is a coreless species from the group of dispersed pore deciduous species. The annual layers differ on all sections, but rather weakly. The vessels are small and invisible. The medullary rays are narrow, but distinguishable by the naked eye: on a transverse section they are visible as very thin shiny lines, and on a radial section - as dull stripes and spots, colored somewhat darker than the surrounding wood. Density at 15% humidity is 0.44 g/cm3, at 12% - 0.41 g/cm3.
Drying.
It dries well, does not warp, but dries out significantly.
Strength.
It has low mechanical properties. At 12% humidity, the compressive strength along the fibers is 370 • 105 Pa, with static bending—661 • 103 Pa.
Persistence.
Not resistant to rotting.
Technological properties.
It can be easily sawed and processed with all types of cutting tools.
Application.
Valued as an ornamental material. The bark of young linden trees (bast) is widely used for wickerwork. Linden juice, honey, buds, flowers, bast are used in medicine, linden flower oil is used in perfumery.
Linden log house
Log houses, baths and saunas made from linden are now also becoming in demand, like those made from other types of wood. Such buildings are relatively expensive (a linden log house is one of the most inexpensive). They do not require special construction techniques, as well as certain operating conditions.
A linden log house does not require a deep foundation (in some places, linden log bathhouses are made without a foundation at all), and such a bathhouse can be used immediately after construction. Considering that linden is a soft material, it rarely cracks even in a log house and practically does not settle.
Advantages:
- Low density
- Ease
- Slight resin release
- Softness and pliability
- Low heat capacity
- Quick drying while maintaining shape
- Pleasant aroma for humans and irritating to rodents
Flaws:
- Relative fragility
- Possibility of fungi formation
In order to increase the service life of wood, linden is treated with special protective materials. Even these measures, which slightly increase the final cost of the product, still do not classify linden as an expensive tree. So, taking into account the significant advantages of the material and the fact that its shortcomings can be corrected, the linden frame in all respects, taking into account its appearance, gets 5.

Lilac buds
Lilacs delight us every spring with their unique aroma and wild blooms.
Lilac buds are collected in the spring, when they are swollen but have not yet burst. An infusion of lilac buds can be taken for diabetes. For this, 2-3 tbsp. Pour boiling water over fresh lilac buds, let it brew for 6 hours, strain and drink in small portions throughout the day.
For radiculitis and joint pain, you can rub the ointment. It is prepared as follows. Grind the dried lilac buds in a blender, mix thoroughly with rendered lard in a ratio of 1:4. Store the ointment in the refrigerator.
Lilac flowers also have excellent healing properties, read about this here.
Linden for bath
Linden boards are literally created to be used where the temperature rises and where there is high humidity. This material is considered ideal for arranging a bathhouse. It is not necessary to make the frame entirely from this wood. Linden for a bath can also be used as cladding for the interior of the room (if the bath is, for example, stone). This can be lining for the steam room and all other rooms.
Any variations of linden and bath will be successful because:
- Wood heats up quickly and retains heat for quite a long time.
- Wood in any form (lining or frame) does not emit resins, so you won’t get burned leaning against the wall.
- Linden does not contain essential oils, so even at high temperatures it is easy to breathe in such a bath.
- In a linden steam room there will always be a light and pleasant aroma, which promotes maximum relaxation, calmness and can even strengthen the body's defenses.
It is considered successful to use linden to create shelves. A couch in a steam room can take up most of the space, and made from linden lining, it will add overall color to the room. Linden shelves are pleasant to the touch, quite soft, comfortable to sit and lie on, and will emit a delicate linden aroma for a long time.
In general, a linden bathhouse, including a steam room and shelves, is a good combination. The material will not change its shape and volume, even after processing the natural smell should remain, and the service life of the linden tree will be significantly increased. You can successfully fight fungus if you ventilate it thoroughly after using the bathhouse.

Reviews from fans of the traditional method of washing with steam indicate that in a linden bathhouse the sensations from the process are much more pleasant than in bathhouses of other wood. So, Igor from Krasnodar says: I love the bathhouse, but I can’t stand the high temperatures in the steam room. In the fake steam room, the sensations, even with high numbers, are very specific: it seems to be hot, but not at all difficult. I advise everyone to make themselves a steam room from linden.
Linden blossom. Tea, infusion, decoction
Linden blossom can be used in the form of tea, infusion, or decoction. There are a huge number of herbal teas that contain linden components.
Lime tea
We remember linden tea, its magical taste and unforgettable aroma from early childhood. The recipe for linden tea is simple:
- pour a tablespoon of inflorescences into a cup
- fill with hot water
- leave for 10-20 minutes
- add 1 teaspoon of honey to slightly cooled tea
- Stir and drink for colds, coughs, sore throat and mouth
Watch the video on how to properly prepare linden tea.
If you boil it, it’s already a decoction. Tea means bringing to a boil or pouring boiling water over it and steeping for a little while.
Herbal teas based on linden blossom
The most useful are herbal teas prepared from different herbal mixtures, one of which will be linden:
1. Herbal tea linden, mint, fireweed . Perfectly tones and strengthens the immune system. Recommended for colds and as their prevention.

How to prepare - watch the video with the recommendations of a herbalist:
5. Herbal tea from linden and sage. Linden blossom is considered a feminine herb that helps with female problems: fibroids, fibroids, menopause and heavy, painful periods.
Sage enhances the properties of linden, and women over forty can drink tea from these plants every day, at night, without breaks. Pour a teaspoon of crushed linden and sage flowers into a glass, pour boiling water, leave for up to 15 minutes, cover with a lid and drink like tea. Many combinations of medicinal herbs are possible. Everyone can choose what suits them best.
Linden infusion
I believe that it is in it that the greatest amount of useful substances is preserved, since the linden tree (a tablespoon of inflorescences) is poured with not too hot water (0.5 liters) and kept in a thermos overnight.
In the morning, strain the infusion and drink it, adding honey or raspberry jam. There is no boiling. I recommend making all of the herbal teas listed above as infusions.
Linden decoction
Decoction means that we boil the components of the decoction for some time, in this case linden flowers. Take a good bunch of inflorescences, put them in an enamel pan, add 0.5 liters of water and cook for 15-20 minutes.
Then let it sit under the lid until it cools. We drink 3 times a day. A strong diaphoretic. Use during bed rest, and for children only at night.
I remind you of the contraindications for the use of linden tea, infusion and decoction: Drinking from medicinal plants cannot be used as a compote - it is drunk in courses with breaks - in order to avoid overdose and allergies, increased stress on the heart . We drink tea for 7-10 days and take a week break. If necessary, repeat the course.
Wall parquet
We can say that wall parquet is a type of lining for walls. To lay linden parquet, a lathing is used, to which parts of the wall parquet must be attached. Most often, bathhouses are arranged this way.
However, wall parquet has also found application in everyday life. To style houses as antique, as well as to create environmentally friendly apartments, parquet is used to cover the walls of literally any room, including corridors, kitchens and balconies.
The installation method resembles brickwork. The length of one element, most often, with a stable width and thickness, ranges from 15-20 centimeters to a meter. Using linden wall parquet, you can hide significant wall imperfections (unevenness, fungal damage), while creating a cozy and environmentally friendly room. Installation is quick and simple, the appearance is stylish, and the price is usually reasonable. Rating 5.

Buds on trees - how to collect them correctly
It is recommended to collect buds from trees in early spring. It is difficult to name the month of collection, so much depends on weather conditions. The most important thing is to catch the moment when the buds have already swelled, but the leaves have not yet begun to bloom. Please note that buds with young leaves that have hatched no longer have the same medicinal value.
Birch buds must be plucked together with the branches; after drying the branches, carefully pluck the buds from the branches. Poplar and aspen buds can be carefully torn off the branches immediately. It is best to cut pine buds with a sharp knife; it can be difficult to tear off the buds with your hands.
Store dried buds in a cotton or paper bag or in a dry glass jar.
